Race Report – Endurance Swim One

We are under way with the Surf n Turf Series for the 2011/12 summer with race one of our endurance swim series kicking off this morning at Pegasus Town.  A small group of swimmers braved the fresh conditions and after a bit of a delay caused by setting the swim course we got our first open water swim of the summer off.

The 3km open water swim was taken out by Andrew Black in a time of 37:53 and first women in the 3km swim was Jodie Lovell in a time of 45:18.

The 2km open water swim was taken out by Wayne Campbell in a time of 25:10 with the first women home being CArlyn Purvis in a time of 28:39

The 1km open water swim was taken out by Steve Marshall in a time of 14:09 (might be time to move up to the bigger distance Steve) and the first women home was Karen Hurley in a time of 16:29

The 500m open water swim was taken out by Leanne Ferry in a time of 9:26 with Quinton Hurley being the first man home with a time of 10:34

The Surf n Turf series kicks into full swing after Christmas with the first of our Wednesday evening Ocean Swim and Aquthon series events starting on January 25th at Corsair Bay with mid week racing every Wednesday for 8 weeks.  We are back at Pegasus Town again on Feb 5th for the second of our Endurance events with this being two weeks out from the State Le Grand Swim at Akaroa it is an ideal warm up event for the State Ocean Swim Series Event.

We would like to thank our sponsors that supported this first event this morning, these were 2xu, High5 Sports Nutrition, Pegasus Town, Sport Canterbury and House of Travel.

Don’t forget about the trip to Rarotonga for the Air New Zealand International Triathlon which incorporates an Ocean Swim event as part of the week of events.  This trip is in May 2012 and we are aiming to have 20 of us going along this year.  For more information talk to Steve Marshall from House of Travel Barrington
