Event Options
This year there are three race options to choose from with the intention of catering for all levels of ability. The two main events are the Aquathon and Long Open Water Swim. The third race option available is a short course open water swim for those who don’t feel like spending too much time in the water.

Note: Short Course open water swim distance will be the same as the Aquathon swim distance. Venues and distances are subject to change.
Venues
The 2009 series will be split between two venues as we trial the new venue of Corsair Bay. The Corsair Bay venue will provide a sheltered triangular swim course set inside the boats, transition will be on the waterfront and the run course will be multi laps out and back along the track heading from Corsair Bay towards Lyttleton.
The Venue at Scarborough will be the same as previous years with a swim course set in the surf at the eastern end of the Esplanade, transition will be on the Esplanade walkway and the run course will be a multi lap out and back course along the Esplanade walkway.

Registration:
5.30 – 6.30pm
Briefing:
6:30pm at transition
Race Start:
6.45pm either a beach start or in waste deep water depending on tides.
Prize giving:
Upon the last competitor finishing each event

Entry for each week’s event will be closed at 8pm on the Tuesday evening prior to each race however race day entries will be accepted if the event is not at capacity. There will be a small penalty for late entries.
Event Numbers
Each event will be restricted to 150 participants for safety reasons.
Top »Course (Corsair Bay)
Swim
The swim course will be set inside the boats at Corsair Bay, number of laps etc will be clearly outlined at the race briefing.
Run
The run will be a multi lap out and back course heading from Corsair Bay along the walkway towards Lyttleton and returning along the same track.
Course (Scarborough)
Swim
The swim course at Scarborough will be determined prior to each event depending on tides and water conditions.
Run
The run course stretches along the Esplanade walkway on the Scarborough waterfront towards Sumner to a turn point which will be clearly marked. Runners will turn around this mark and head back towards the transition area. The number of laps will be clearly identified at the race briefing prior to each event.

Top »Prizes
There will be a brief spot prize giving following each weeks race. Major spot prizes will be given out at the final prize giving including a 2XU wetsuit and Asics running shoes, to be eledigable for the major spot prizes competitors must compete in at least 3 of the 6 events.
Points will be allocated for both overall series champions and catergory champions although this year there will be no performance prizes.

In the case of extreme weather conditions or other forces beyond the control of the event directors we reserve the right to make adjustments to the planned course. If any event is cancelled due to forces beyond the control of the event directors every effort will be made to re-schedule that race however we make no guarantees.
