Run

A new event last summer the run only option is going to be available again this summer. We are aware that not everyone wants to swim or paddle but may still want to come along and take part so we thought since we have a run course set up anyway why not add a run only option. The run will follow the same course as is used for the aquathon events offering a 5km run and a 3km run option.  Please note these distances are indicative at this stage and subject to confirming run course details.

Race Options

Short Run

Targeted at those who want to give it a go, the short run course will be approximately 3km. The field for this event is expected to be fairly small so it is a great opportunity for those participants who want a gentle introduction to running events.

Long Run

The long run event is another new event for this summer and is targeted at the people who don’t swim or paddle but often come along to support their partners or friends who are doing the other events. Now you can take part in the Surf n Turf series as well.

Course Descriptions

Corsair Bay
Click to enlarge The run course at Corsair Bay will start in front of the finish line and head east along the 4×4 track towards lyttleton. In contrast to the run course at Pegasus this run course is undulating. Runners will continue along the 4×4 track until they either come to a turning cone or on some of the longer weeks events runners will follow a single track off the 4×4 track heading towards lyttleton for approximately 200m where runners will come out onto the road where they will turn and head back towards Corsair Bay. At the start of the 4×4 track runners will make a left turn off the road and follow the 4×4 track back towards Corsair Bay. At this point the short course runners will cross the finish line. The long course runners will make a hard left turn and head around the back of the Aquathon Transition area and head back out of Corsair Bay towards lyttleton and complete a second lap.

Categories

Depending on entrant numbers we will either split the run events into three categories Junior (U20), Open (20 – 39) and Vet (40+) or if entry numbers are good then we will have 10 year age categories as we do with all the other events in the series.

Prizes

There will be a brief spot prize giving following each weeks race. Major spot prizes will be given out at the final prize giving, to be eligible for the major spot prizes competitors must compete in at least 5 of the 8 events.

Points will be allocated for both overall series champions and category champions. At this stage we are unsure if we will be able to award performance prizes for every race option.
